Ok so a weird thing happened before I left for Marfa on my Ical (mac calendar for pc users) popped up a trip that I had planned for marfa A YEAR ago on the SAME exact weekend that I was going with the wonderful Diana Lott as a second shooter. CRAZY! So it was almost as though I was meant to be in Marfa that weekend! It was truly a wonderful experience. I hope to go back with the hubs one of these days I know he will LOVE LOVE LOVE it! In fact I was looking around at all the houses for sale ;) a little too far though. Well this wedding had a vintage music theme where they channeled Elvis and Johnny Cash! It was at the wonderful Capri lounge in which we found out there is no AC there, BUT Marfa is 10 degrees cooler than Austin, crazy I know! So it ended up being a perfect temp!

We started out photographing their reception at Planet Marfa, it was a super sweet space with a ping pong table and a TEEPEE where the inside was dug into the ground and you walked down stairs to get inside, oh also a parachute dome! AWESOME!

We also to a couple of couple portraits infront of Food Shark Museum of Electronic Wonders and late Night Grilled Cheese Parlour! More inside pics to come.

Parachute dome at night @Planet Marfa! The photo to the right is a velvet painting the bride and groom’s friends made of them to go along with the Elvis theme! LOL! AWESOME!

So after the rehearsal dinner Diana and I went to this place… Food Shark Museum of Electronic Wonders and late Night Grilled Cheese Parlour! and again even though I am GF it was AMAZING grilled cheese!! For some weird reason it reminded me of when I was living in Poland for three months and we would make grilled cheese almost every day and it had a very similar taste and texture, soooooo going back next time in Marfa!

At first I thought maybe this was because there are “harmful waves” coming from a cell phone but come to find out that it was because it interupted the transmission of the radio and made it all staticky. Diana’s phone went off and the whole place said “cellphone, cellphone” LOL! I remember this happening to my radio when I first got my cell phone when I was a teenager.

After visiting the Grilled Cheese Parlor we went to see the Marfa lights, No doubt in my mind they are not car lights and they are something supernatural that is my opinion. They kind of freaked me out and I wanted to get back to our old hotel where I am sure ghosts wander. :)

The bride said one of the reasons she choose Marfa was because of it’s wide open skies, wow was she so right!

At first glance the pic on the left is a “bride putting on makeup” pretty typical shot, but look at her P.J.s super cute!

That dress was AMAZING!

This was their cake topper, Elvis singing to a wedding couple :)

This is where we all stayed, Hotel Paisano, good times were had by all!

That is the bride’s mother on the right, isn’t she beautiful! She kept taking photos, such a proud and happy momma!

This was the emblem for the wedding and what do you do for a SUPER awesome Texas wedding? Put it on a belt buckle!

Their officiant dressed in a Vegas Elvis attire, FUN!

We went out to this field to grab shots of the bride and groom. I LOVE every part of this shot!

Oh did I mention that Dale Watson played the music for their reception! It was fabulous!

Cupcakes by Sugar Mama’s in Austin, This particular cupcake was The Elvis, Moist banana buttermilk cupcake topped with creamy peanut butter buttercream and edible gold sparkles. Thankyouverymuch. HECK YEAH! AGAIN GF but totally worth it!

The night ended with a little DJing and the DJ taught the guests and the bride how to do THRILLER! Fun stuff!

So in the morning Diana and I went around town for a bit. It is a lot bigger than we originally thought. The area where the wedding was held was basically their South Congress/Strip. But at first glance it seems as though that is all there is to the town. But Diana and I drove around a bit to find some pretty rad things. Before our journey we HAD to stop at Pizza Foundation. I had heard so much about them I just HAD to have a slice of that AMAZING looking pizza. NEEDLESS to say I threw the GF diet to the wind that weekend and paid for it later LOL but soooo worth it!

We saw this burned out hotel? What do you think it is?

This is the company that owns the Capri Lounge where the wedding was. P.s. It is run by the same people who run St. Cecilia and San Jose hotel in Austin, Liz Lambert, GOTTA LOVE her style! Well I do!

Mountains in Marfa, I know it kind of looks like a hill from this far away but it really is a mountain and it is beautiful! Soooo much wide open space out there!

I was convinced to catch up on the photos from my trip to China. I would say that I am a pretty prolific blogger, at least once a week if not every other week. BUT I let time get away with me on this one. I got it to the bride and she loved it but I just thought that you all might want to see the pretty photos :) Also I now own Lightroom 3 which it has a “print” module that you can have it “print” to file and create super awesome blog boards in miliseconds! So this week I am going to try to catch up on all of my blogging, 4 weddings and a pregnancy session. THANK GOD for Lightroom! It is helping me to edit sooooo much faster than Photoshop CS! I know all you photographers out there will think I am crazy for not updating that till now, BUT I updated my computer to a Mac!! Then my gear which was quite a BIG hunk of change, so I finally got around to Lightroom, and I wish I would have done it sooner, but alas it is a life saver! Ok I will stop yammering, I hope you enjoy the photos. You can see part one here… Beijing China wedding part one. This wedding took place at The Orchard in Beijing China

Can I just say, it was so awesome to photograph this wedding! It was GORGEOUS! I have known the bride since I was born (ok we are cousins :)  So she is super close to my heart!

Adam Thomson (the groom) is a part of Krochet Kids International which is a company that employs people in Africa to Krochet hats and other accessories and then they sell the items in the states and then give the people who made the items fair trade price. And Kallie Dovel (the bride) co-founded 31bits with similar concept except with necklaces and bracelets. REALLY gorgeous stuff you should check it out! They met at Vangaurd Christian college and Adam was drawn to Kallie because of her surfing scar across her head from her board hitting her after falling off. They both had a passion for Africa and making a difference both of their companies started small and are now creating massive change! So onto their beautifully sweet beach wedding…

My Mother and I made all of the bouquets and boutineers. It was a ton of fun! Kallie LOVED them! :)

The photo above was a mural at the beach house that was on the Naval base that Kallie and Adam had their beach wedding.

The groom made this necklace for the bride, so beautiful!

These bracelets are made through 31bits they are a SUPER awesome organization that is employing and educating 100 women in Uganda to make these beautiful bracelets. Keep an eye out they are coming out with their wedding line in a couple of months! Until then check out their real gold flecked bracelets and necklaces on their website.

How awesome to have friends who are excited for you to get married!

Africa is super close to the bride and groom’s hearts, they both have companies out there employing Ugandan women to create one of a kind accessories, so that is why the bride wore this Africa bangle on her gold bracelet.

The groom dawned a new bow tie that Krochet Kids are having made by women in Uganda at fair trade price and making a difference in their lives! Keep an eye out for these super cute bow ties for your upcoming nuptials!

Adam (aka the groom) has a super rad vintage VW bus that they used to transport all of the groomsmen down to the beach as well as their getaway car!

The ladies from 31bits (the brides friends and co-founders) arranged the flowers for the tables as well as created sticks with starfish on the end and wrapped the sticks with beige muslin. Then they created more sticks with scraps of material tied onto the top for a extra splash of color. SUPER CUTE!

The bride’s family friend passed along their cake cutting knife and server. so they engraved their names and wedding date on the knife beside the other couple.

Family friends had placed bets on who would get married next. Nicole was in fact the first to get married then Kallie was next so Teresa (Kallie’s Mom) lost the bet. Not sure what the final winner will get :)

Such a cute reminder that more food is coming!

The mother of the groom hand stitched blankets for guests to sit on during the ceremony. The edges of them had sea shells tied on to keep them from flying away.

Father of the bride cooked all of the meat and had help from friends and family to stage and warm the food. It was delicious!

Homemade Sangria! It was a big hit! They bought over 40 bottles of wine and they were all gone by the end of the night!

Friends of the bride created these sweet flags for the reception, it added such a fun handmade touch to the metal gazebo.

Shelby and I were friends when we were teenagers. We spent the night at each other’s houses. Applied face masks and told secrets. Then we both grew up and went in two totally different directions. She is now a teacher in China!! Like I said totally different directions. Before Facebook ;) it was a little more difficult to keep up with everybody’s business so we ended up loosing touch. (Which I have since appologized to Shelby for) Well one day on Facebook I see that she is engaged!! I am totally thrilled I think to myself OMG I HAVE to photograph their wedding! I don’t care if I have to fly to China to do it! Well I did! It was an AMAZING experience! I can now say that China will always be in my heart! One of these days I want to take my husband to see what Shelby and Stephen are up to over there.

So a little side story about them from what I remember (Shelby tell me if this is wrong ;) they are both american and ended up meeting at a garden that Shelby loved to go to and then became friends and the love grew from there. So I mentioned that Shelby is a teacher, well Stephen is an AMAZING artist! I will be posting some of his work and a link to his site soon after I finish with the wedding post. They are such a sweet couple and compliment each other so well! Their humor is AMAZING and together will crack up the sourist of people :) ie Chinese taxi drivers :) HA HA HA I don’t know what I am talking about ok on with the pics….

So the wedding was held at The Orchard in Beijing China. The ceremony was on a little island surrounded by a moat outside of the resturant. The island is just big enough to hold the little screened structure were the ceremony took place. Then it had this beautiful bridge to it so of course I had to take a pic of them on it! So this is just the ceremony more to come!
