Humming Bird House Wedding in Austin Texas

This was such a beautiful and sweet wedding. I shot this as a second shooter to Daniel C. Photography . He is such a great guy to work with! The Hummingbird House is a beautiful location and a fun “new” unique Austin location. They had a tent that was simply STUNNING and it is a normal standby to the venue! Fabian Salcedo from The Flower Studio created the elegant floral design. And the cake by Simon Lee was delicious, I know I am gluten intolerant but COME on SIMON LEE!!!! And their band Dysfunkshun Junkshun rocked the crowds socks offffff! Again thanks Danny for asking me to shoot with you!

W Hotel wedding in Austin

It has been a dream of mine to photograph a wedding at the W since I saw they were building it. Then I went online to see what the inside was going to look like and dreamed even more about the opportunity to photograph a wedding here. So when Gia Pham of Red Fly Photography contacted me and asked me to second shoot this gorgeous wedding with her I was SUPER excited! It was all I dreamed of , amazing interior design as a photographer’s backdrop DREAM! Oh and it was icing on the cake that the couple were SUPER cute and sooooo adorable together! Ok less talking and more fabulous!….

Zilker Clubhouse wedding; Jillian and Jonas

This was such a fun wedding for me it was really short (compared to most weddings I photograph) but very sweet. They were married at the Justice of the Peace the day before so this was pretty much a reception/celebration. It was a night wedding during December thus the moody lighting and fire in the fire places. Oh and a COFFEE BAR!! Awesome! Well it is 5:30 am on Christmas Eve, I think I will head to bed, until next year… Happy Holidays all!

This is one of the things I LOVE LOVE LOVE about Zilker clubhouse, the VIEW!

They had cake balls made in their new last name.

They had a ribbon waving entrance, I LOVE this idea!!

AND Amy’s icecream! Def. went off the diet that night! SHHHH don’t tell my trainer!

This would be a DREAM come true for us to renew our vows in New York! There were several things that we wish we could change about our wedding, it was beautiful but we were on a TIGHT budget and so we had to cut back on a lot of the key elements (dress, wedding photographer, cake, food, liquor, band) at our wedding which some aspects came out awesome because they were hand-made. I don’t want to sound ungrateful because it was still one of the memorable days ever and I look forward to sharing the rest of my life with the BEST MAN EVER! We did get something PERFECTLY right at our wedding, we married each other, so it is TOTALLY worth celebrating!

I met this couple through the 80′s wedding I shot last Dec., when it was published in The Knot magazine they saw the feature and contacted me to shoot their wedding. I am so excited for them! It is going to be a fun wedding! And they are sooooo in love it is super sweet! Oh also we shot at the Arboretum in North Austin this is where they went on their first date, to Thundercloud and Amy’s icecream. So of course we had to get some shots in Amy’s Thanks soooo much Amy’s Icecream for letting us take a couple of photos!

I love how there is a little boy outside looking in in shock “ummm um um they are kissing!”

Austin wedding: Abby and Derek

When Daniel and I were youth helpers at our church we met Abby. She is a creative and spunky young women. She has such a soft heart! She moved overseas for missions work. When she came back she reconnected with a friend of hers she had known since she was a kid and sparks flew and the rest is history. She hired my assistant at the time Hannah to photograph her wedding. She did a beautiful job! BUT Hannah was also in the wedding so she asked if I could come and shoot the ceremony since she was going to be standing by her. So my answer- OF COURSE! So here are the photos from this lovely wedding…

Their sign in book was Dr. Seuss’ “Oh, the places You’ll Go!”, which I thought was such a fun idea since they were planning on returning to the mission feild.

They also asked guests to bring recipes, so cleaver for newlyweds esp. if they haven’t cooked a lot or if they are foodies!

The vase on the left was full of spoons, not sure the story behind that, but it looked pretty . Then the two ladies in purple I know both of them the one on the farthest right is Hannah, she used to be my photography assistant.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the way they made their “ring pillows”!!

Instead of a flower girl they had a balloon girl, super cute!

They had the balloon girl release balloons when they kissed, SUPER CUTE!

So Derek wanted to carry Abby on his back on the way out, he wanted to walk through the fountain and jump in it, but instead he fell! Getting Abby and himself TOTALLY SOAKED! But they laughed it off and changed clothes.

Chapel Dulcinea wedding in Austin: Christine and Brian

I got the email from Brian the groom two weeks before their wedding. He explained to me that it was going to be a short ceremony and a total of 6 people including me attending. Because of the nature of his wedding and it being within a month of their wedding I was able to work out a significant deal for them. Which I am glad I did! This was such a SWEET and CUTE couple! It was a lot of fun to have a full hour with just the two of them after their ceremony to get some super sweet portraits. So note to brides think about adding more time than the typical 15 min. we get with the two of you and we can work some portrait magic! The other awesome thing about this wedding was that Christine picked a time of day that was PERFECT for light! We got the golden hour then the first part of sunset, it was GORGEOUS! Thank you Brian and Christine for inviting me to your special day! I wish you the best and to a life together filled with laughter and happiness!

Here is the vendors that the couple used and their comments on the services received …

Christine’s make up artist was Maris Malone Calderon (Jessica speaking: personally LOVE HER! ) – She found her through google and we later found great reviews on weddingwire and yelp about her. She was great! She was able to accommodate us on short notice and came to the hotel.

Christine’s hair stylist was Camille Brower of Peacock Salon – She also found her through google. She originally contacted Lori at Peacock, but was referred to Camille as Lori was not available. The salon is really cute and Camille did a wonderful job. Christine was extremely happy with the results and would recommend her to anyone in the Austin area.

Christine’s dress is from David’s Bridal and is a Galliano. It was the first dress she tried on and although she did try on 5 others, she went back to this one. While I myself did not get to see the other dresses, I was floored by what she picked. It looked so great! Her friend Krista was there to help her out.

My suit is from Zara and I am super happy with it! I’ve never had a suit fit me so well! This was the first time I’ve even heard of Zara (Christine informed me about it) but I will be returning to Zara for more suits and other clothing!

We found reverend Joe on Chapel Dulcinea’s website. Such a sweet man! We are very grateful he was able to marry us.

We stayed at the Driskill Hotel. A wonderful piece of history in the heart of Austin! We’ve always wanted to stay in this hotel and we are glad we chose it. The staff was super friendly and the hotel is gorgeous.

We chose to have a small ceremony because honestly we aren’t “big wedding” people. We feel like couples spend so much time, effort, stress (and arguing!) during the planning of a wedding all to try and please their guests. To us, the wedding is about the bride and the groom first and foremost. When we first started our planning, we had originally looked at going to Mexico for a beach wedding. After weeks of searching and emailing, we just could not find what we wanted. It didn’t “feel right”. Just as we were starting to lose hope, we checked the Chapel Dulcinea website and saw there was a cancellation. We booked it right away and decided we’d make everything else work out. Chapel Dulcinea was a Valentine’s Day spot for us 2 years ago, and it is simply an amazing chapel. We knew right away that with the opening, the chapel was meant to be the place we pledge to spend our lives together. The time slot, a beautiful Texas sunset, was perfect. I had the hardest time wiping the goofy smile off of my face, and I still struggle to do so!

Friends and family were notified, but we decided not to send “official” invitations out. We wanted it to be very personal and intimate. Also, the short notice made it very difficult, if not impossible, for family to come. We did not make plans or arrange accommodations for any guests. Simply put, our policy was “If people want to come we won’t say no, but they are on their own”. To our surprise, one of our “couple” friends decided to drive down and surprise us. Austin, my friend and co-worker, and Krista, Christine’s friend. That was a really nice surprise.

We had our after wedding dinner at Trio in the Four Seasons Hotel. One word, WOW! Neither of us have ever had such great service. They made us feel so special with the custom printed menus with our new last name and complimentary champagne and dessert. It was a wonderful way to celebrate!

And of course, our fabulous photographer! Thank you again for accommodating us on short notice.

Horseshoe Bay Resort wedding fashion shoot

Where to start? This shoot was suppose to be a workshop for photographers at Volente Beach. BUT Trisha and I went out to the site two weeks before to see where we were going to set up and saw that the lake was at least 20 yards from the beach and then the background had a small marina in the background and in between the beach and marina was limestone. So needless to say we decided to relocate the shoot to a more luxourious location, Horseshoe Bay Resort. Because of the change we lost most of our “students” which was TOTALLY understandable since we moved the location almost 2 hours out of Austin.

Side note for second photographers aka assistants or photographers starting out who would like more opportunity to shoot some FUN wedding fashion…Soooo if you are interested in attending out workshop in February let me know it is going to be SUPER fabulous with a TON of AWESOME vendors signed on with a modern 70′s theme and Mercury Hall on board it is going to be SWEET!

Ok back to Horseshoe Bay Resort, SERIOUSLY if you are having a wedding this century you should consider this place! They work with just about any budget and their grounds are SOOO Beautiful as you will see shortly.

Also we had Visual Lyrics come out for the floral and rentals, they have a new line of rentals called Vintique Rentals. They will be renting vintage dishes, the chairs you see in the photos, the rustic table and bench in the photo as well. They also did all the awesome sea shell bouquets and centerpieces! SIMPLY STUNNING!

Then Catering with a Twist came all the way out as well to showcase their new seafood menu which looks AWESOME! Sushi, Scallop salad then a Paella! YES PLEASE!

Last but not least the wonderful Fine Arts Bakery, Patti Wright. She used to own her own bakery years ago but focused on raising her family and following other passions. Now she is back and get ready to be stunned by her creativity! Also Thank you Jen Bertrand for being such a BEAUTIFUL model for us! Also Trisha Coker for coming all the way from Memphis, Tennessee to shoot with me (ok and go to a Dance competition but still you came out to shoot and that is awesome!)

So our super sweet “Mermaid” costume came from Lucy in Disguise in Austin. It was actually a piece of a mermaid costume and then with the help of the accesories counter and the costume dept. we were able to pair it with a super sweet gold sequined corset!

Visual Lyrics created this awesome shell hairpiece. Visual Lyrics is SOOOO creative I just know every time I work with her she is going to KNOCK it out of the park with their creativity!

Before you get too jealous of our super hot model she is wearing false eyelashes. Not like that really helps I still hate her, she is soooo freaking beautiful! Ok I don’t hate her just admire her beauty a heck of a lot!

This is one of the things that Visual Lyrics will be renting, a Macrame shell curtain that would be perfect for a ceremony backdrop or the backdrop for a cake etc.

Ok seriously get a load of this tablescape by Visual Lyrics! OMG STUNNING! Trisha of Visual Lyrics took a vintage umbrella and stripped it of it’s fabric and put giant leaves in it’s place, GENUIS!

Visual Lyrics also created several centerpieces from shells!

So here is the fun cake that Fine Arts Bakery created for our shoot! It was based off a dress that we put on our pinterest board. Not the one we used for the shoot but a different one. And I think it was a PERFECT fit for our wedding fashion shoot!

The cake had an ombre effect that was STUNNING! The detail on this cake was phenominal! I mean really!? Check out those cookies!

So Fine Arts Bakery specializes in cookies and she creates one of a kind pieces of art on a cookie. For instance she will paint a Picasso on a cookie or any other art that you can think of. Which would make such a wonderful favor for your guests OR an extra gift for your bridesmaids. ORRRR a super sweet gift for your husband the day of your wedding. I remember hearing “The quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!” She also can do Gluten Free options as well you can ask her about that as well!

Onto the food! Catering with a Twist did such an amazing job! You should contact them for your wedding they are so creative you will be so glad you did!

Thank you all for sticking with me through one of Austin area’s hottest days! I LOVE the results!! I mean what else would you expect from Austin’s GREATEST wedding vendors!? Again thank you all for trusting my vision and being so flexible with the changes we needed to make.

Marfa wedding at the Capri Lounge

Ok so a weird thing happened before I left for Marfa on my Ical (mac calendar for pc users) popped up a trip that I had planned for marfa A YEAR ago on the SAME exact weekend that I was going with the wonderful Diana Lott as a second shooter. CRAZY! So it was almost as though I was meant to be in Marfa that weekend! It was truly a wonderful experience. I hope to go back with the hubs one of these days I know he will LOVE LOVE LOVE it! In fact I was looking around at all the houses for sale a little too far though. Well this wedding had a vintage music theme where they channeled Elvis and Johnny Cash! It was at the wonderful Capri lounge in which we found out there is no AC there, BUT Marfa is 10 degrees cooler than Austin, crazy I know! So it ended up being a perfect temp!

We started out photographing their reception at Planet Marfa, it was a super sweet space with a ping pong table and a TEEPEE where the inside was dug into the ground and you walked down stairs to get inside, oh also a parachute dome! AWESOME!

We also to a couple of couple portraits infront of Food Shark Museum of Electronic Wonders and late Night Grilled Cheese Parlour! More inside pics to come.

So after the rehearsal dinner Diana and I went to this place… Food Shark Museum of Electronic Wonders and late Night Grilled Cheese Parlour! and again even though I am GF it was AMAZING grilled cheese!! For some weird reason it reminded me of when I was living in Poland for three months and we would make grilled cheese almost every day and it had a very similar taste and texture, soooooo going back next time in Marfa!

At first I thought maybe this was because there are “harmful waves” coming from a cell phone but come to find out that it was because it interupted the transmission of the radio and made it all staticky. Diana’s phone went off and the whole place said “cellphone, cellphone” LOL! I remember this happening to my radio when I first got my cell phone when I was a teenager.

After visiting the Grilled Cheese Parlor we went to see the Marfa lights, No doubt in my mind they are not car lights and they are something supernatural that is my opinion. They kind of freaked me out and I wanted to get back to our old hotel where I am sure ghosts wander.

The bride said one of the reasons she choose Marfa was because of it’s wide open skies, wow was she so right!

At first glance the pic on the left is a “bride putting on makeup” pretty typical shot, but look at her P.J.s super cute!

This is where we all stayed, Hotel Paisano, good times were had by all!

That is the bride’s mother on the right, isn’t she beautiful! She kept taking photos, such a proud and happy momma!

This was the emblem for the wedding and what do you do for a SUPER awesome Texas wedding? Put it on a belt buckle!

We went out to this field to grab shots of the bride and groom. I LOVE every part of this shot!

Oh did I mention that Dale Watson played the music for their reception! It was fabulous!

Cupcakes by Sugar Mama’s in Austin, This particular cupcake was The Elvis, Moist banana buttermilk cupcake topped with creamy peanut butter buttercream and edible gold sparkles. Thankyouverymuch. HECK YEAH! AGAIN GF but totally worth it!

The night ended with a little DJing and the DJ taught the guests and the bride how to do THRILLER! Fun stuff!

So in the morning Diana and I went around town for a bit. It is a lot bigger than we originally thought. The area where the wedding was held was basically their South Congress/Strip. But at first glance it seems as though that is all there is to the town. But Diana and I drove around a bit to find some pretty rad things. Before our journey we HAD to stop at Pizza Foundation. I had heard so much about them I just HAD to have a slice of that AMAZING looking pizza. NEEDLESS to say I threw the GF diet to the wind that weekend and paid for it later LOL but soooo worth it!

We saw this burned out hotel? What do you think it is?

This is the company that owns the Capri Lounge where the wedding was. P.s. It is run by the same people who run St. Cecilia and San Jose hotel in Austin, Liz Lambert, GOTTA LOVE her style! Well I do!

Mountains in Marfa, I know it kind of looks like a hill from this far away but it really is a mountain and it is beautiful! Soooo much wide open space out there!
